Four steps on the mill floor

Weight is set on the loom. Water repellency is added in finishing. Each of our 12 fabrics is marked with the step where its weight and its function were decided. If a change sits in finishing, it moves from sample to bulk without a new weave.

  1. Warping

    Step 1

    • Warp yarn and yarn count
    • Ends per cm across the beam
    • Spandex core-spun yarn for stretch

WL-P165: the 4-way stretch is decided here

  2. Weaving

    Step 2

    weight set here

    • Plain, twill or mesh
    • Picks per cm set the loom-state weight
    • Open cells for mesh

    WL-T190: 44 picks/cm gives 190 gsm

  3. Finishing

    Step 3

    function set here

    • Dye to a stock colour or a lab dip
    • Water repellent, brushing, wicking
    • Heat-set to final width and weight

    WL-P120: water repellent added here

  4. Testing

    Step 4

    • Test items named on our fabrics
    • Run on each dye lot
    • Result sheet with your bulk order

Pick by end use

Tell us the end use, not just the colour. We choose the weave and the finish from that.
